Is Membership Included in my registration?
No, it is not included, however you can join via the Kodaly National website at www.kodaly.org.au and then register for the conference at the member rate.
Do I need to sign up for the electives I wish to attend?
No, you do not need to sign up for your chosen elective, just show up on to the room on time to be sure to get a place. It is a good idea to have a ‘Plan B’ should a room be crowded.
Are there any “extras” I should bring with me?
Can we smoke at the venue?
No, Canberra Girls Grammar and the surrounding grounds are designated smoke-free zones.
Can you suggest any accommodation?
Please refer to the Accommodation and Travel Page here for hotels which have a special offer for attendees
As a teacher, will I get a Professional Learning certificate?
Yes, all participants will be provided with a certificate which will be emailed after the conference. Please make sure you check in each day and select that you would like a certificate.
Can I take photos or video recordings of the sessions?
Please respect the intellectual property of the presenters and do not record any sessions on any device without their express consent. You may take informal photos during break times. There will be an official photographer at the conference. If you do not wish to have your photo taken, please stay out of the line of vision.
Can I get my cappuccino at the conference?
Yes, Tony’s Mobile Coffee Van -Liquid Gold 2 U will be onsite to look after your coffee/chai/hot chocolate needs – especially early in the morning then at the morning tea break and lunchtime.
What catering is included with my registration?
Lunch and Morning Tea is included with your registration fees (and a drink and fruit will be available at the afternoon break time), and if you are a full registrant the Monday Social Event is also included, however we ask that you RSVP to indicate that you are coming for catering purposes (we do not want to order catering that is not needed!).
When I registered I forgot to inform the bookings office about my dietary requirements, is it too late?
There is no kitchen onsite but please let the office know via phone (0405771377) or email nationalconference@kodaly.org.au with any requirements you may have as early as possible. If you have very special requirements and it is very close to the event, you may need to bring some of your own food items. All those with special dietary requirements will have meals labelled with names for collection at all break times (Morning Teas and Lunch).
How do I work out what Musicianship session I go to?
To work out your Musicianship level use the following self-assessment Musicianship Level and Musicianship Information sheets.
These levels correspond with the Australian Kodály Certificate Musicianship levels.
Musicians new to using solfa are encouraged to select Musicianship level 4.
Educators with limited musicianship and theory training are encouraged to enrol in level 1.
To get the most out of your session, it is advisable to change groups after the first 10 minutes if your chosen group is too easy/advanced for you.
Is the conference accredited with NESA or TQI?
TQI Accreditation (ACT) has now been approved for 15 hours
Unfortunately, we are unable to achieve NESA Accreditation (NSW) due to a change in requirements.
Will there be Wifi available to attendees?
Yes, there will be access to Wfi, details will be at the registration desk
Will I get notes for the sessions I attend?
All attendees will be given a Handbook containing notes that presenters have submitted. During the week before the conference a drop box link will be sent as well so that notes can be downloaded on to devices if desired. Attendees will be given a detailed program on arrival
Where can I park at the venue?
Parking is available near B block, D block and the boarding house. On street parking is also available on Empire Cct.

If I am not attending the conference, am I able to get a copy of the conference notes?
Yes, print copies of the handbook will be available for purchase. The cost is $40 plus postage – pre orders with payment 10 days prior to the conference will ensure copies are available (after that date stock is not guaranteed). Handbooks can be posted for $13 each or collected if you have a friend attending and they are happy to collect for you.
Covid-19 FAQs:
Will we have to sing wearing masks?
As of May 2022, Canberra Girls Grammar School permits masks to be taken off when singing. However, you are free to wear one if it is your preference to do so.
Do we have to check in with the CBR Check-in app?
As of May 2022 there is no longer a requirement to use the CBR Check-in app at schools. Canberra Girls Grammar School still requires all registrants to show their vaccination certificate on arrival.
Will I be able to get a refund if I contract Covid-19 in the lead up to the conference and have to quarantine, thereby missing some or all of the conference?
You are able to either request a refund or substitute your registration. The amount you will receive as a refund depends on the date you cancel. Kodaly ACT has designed the Terms and Conditions to be as generous as possible.
While the Terms and Conditions outline how refunds are handled in these circumstances, we understand the unique situation of every attendee and welcome individual case-by-case discussions regarding negotiated refunds or other remedies.
Kodaly ACT recommends you try substituting your registration wherever possible. You are able to substitute your registration and transfer it to another person if you become ill or are unable to attend.
If you arrange this prior to the start of the conference, and once you are able to attend or your quarantine period has ended, you are able to reverse your substitution and attend the rest of the conference if you feel you are in good enough health and pose no risk to others.
Will I be able to get a refund if I become ill during the conference and am unable to attend the following days?
As with any illness, Kodaly ACT appreciates everyone’s efforts to prevent the transmission of communicable infections.
You are able to either request a refund or substitute your registration. Kodaly ACT recommends you try substituting your registration wherever possible.
You are able to substitute your registration and transfer it to another person if you become ill and unable to attend or are subjected to a quarantine direction.
If you are unable to substitute your registration you can request a refund.
While the Terms and Conditions outline how refunds are handled in these circumstances, we understand the unique situation of every attendee and welcome individual case-by-case discussions regarding negotiated refunds or other remedies.
How much time do I have for my session?
If you are presenting a paper(s), the Sessions are allocated a 30 minute time slot – this includes 20 – 25 minutes to present and 5-10 minutes of questions/comments. Please be aware of the time ensuring that the presenter who follows has their full allocation of time as well. If you are presenting a workshop(s), the Sessions are allocated to 55-60 minute time slots. Again we ask that you finish on time and be conscious of the following session.
Timing of sessions
We ask that you get to your room early and please start and end sessions on time. This enables the smooth running of the Conference and also ensures that participants won’t be running late for their next session. It can be tempting to run into break times but we ask that you resist this temptation!! If possible, to help in this, one of the committee or student helpers will give a 5-10 minute reminder for the end of your session. Thank you for your assistance in this.
How can I make sure my presentation will be compatible with the school’s IT systems?
Please bring your own device/laptop– If you have an adaptor to HDMI please bring that along. Please also bring your presentation on a USB as a backup.
Will there be sound and Internet available?
Sound can be played in all rooms – please bring all files (including sound files) already embedded into your presentations. If you need access to internet for your presentation, the school has Wifi, details will be available at the registration desk
Will I have IT help or do I need to run my own session?
If you are planning to use electronic presentations, you will be responsible to run your own presentation. There will be student volunteers allocated to workshop rooms should you need assistance.
I am presenting at the National Conference and need to submit my notes. Where can I find the template?
A template for session notes can be downloaded Presenters notes template. Please remember to submit your notes no later than 14 August 2022
Will participants have access to my session notes?
All session notes will be included in the conference handbook. Please make sure you notes are prepared using the handbook template and are sent to the office NO LATER THAN 14/8/2022. So your notes are easily identifiable please name your file as follows: Surname_FirstInitial_First 3 to 6 words of your session title ie Jones_M_SingInShower or Jones_M_MethodsEC and save as a word document.
What do I do if I have materials that cannot be included in the handbook (eg. sheet music for something or an exercise for musicianship etc) ?
Please bring along 30-40 copies to hand out at your workshops. There are no copying facilities at the school that we can use.

Where do I send inserts for the conference bags?
Items can be sent to the senior campus of Canberra Girls Grammar School – the Delivery label MUST be used so that your parcel will find its way to the right place!. The delivery label template can be downloaded here. Please complete the company name section (that is in red). Please ensure that these inserts arrive no later than Wednesday 14 September 2022.
I have some goods to be delivered prior to the conference for my trade stall, where can I send them?
All items are to have the correct label attached (The delivery label template can be downloaded here). Please complete your company name and number of boxes section (that is in red) and send to the senior campus of Canberra Girls Grammar School (address details are on the label. Note that After the conference we ask that you arrange to have pickups by 5pm on the Thursday if at all possible.
I booked some advertising for the conference handbook, what are the artwork specifications?

When can I come and set up my trade display?
The venue (CCGS Senior Campus) will be available for you to set up from 11.00am – 3:00pm on Sunday 25 September when the committee will be setting up. When you arrive on the Sunday, enter the school from Empire Circuit and turn right, go to the end of the carpark. You can then unload and come straight up the ramp to the Science Atrium. Otherwise, you may arrive from 7:45am each day (registrations open at 8.00am with the first session at 8:30am each day). See the parking map here
